This project will entail increasing knowledge and actions to advance coastal resilience efforts in the two
communities of Benton Harbor and Bridgman along Lake Michigan. Both communities participated in the Coastal Leadership Academy in 2022.
The project scope in Benton Harbor is to better understand the extent and magnitude of current and future neighborhood flooding and to engage community leaders to develop a framework to implement green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) to address climate change and lessen impacts of increased rain events. SWMPC will work closely with the Sustainable Business Forum to engage community leaders and to provide training on GSI to community leaders.
The project scope in Bridgman is to advance the efforts of the Shoreline Resilience Committee which will
include public education events, zoning ordinance review and recommendations and working with
students to document changes to the shoreline with drones.
