The Niles-Buchanan-Cass Area Transportation Study (NATS) is the Michigan piece of the South Bend, Indiana, urbanized area as designated by the United States Census. The Niles-Buchanan-Cass Area Transportation Study encompasses 9 jurisdictions in Berrien and Cass Counties, these municipalites are:
- City of Niles
- City of Buchanan
- Village of Edwardsburg
- Bertrand Township
- Buchanan Township
- Howard Township
- Milton Township
- Niles Township
- Ontwa Township
NATS has two committees, the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and the Policy Committee. These two committees work cooperatively to make transportation related decisions for the NATS area. The Committees are made up of local representatives, transit providers, citizen reps, and elected officials from the NATS member municipalities listed above. Also on these Committees are representatives from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
