What We Do

The Southwest Michigan Planning Commission provides a variety of planning services to the communities in Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren counties.

  

COVID-19 Economic Relief 

 

Community Planning Services include the research, writing and development of Comprehensive Master Plans and Community Park, Recreation, Open Space, and Greenway Plans.

 

Environmental Planning Services include watershed planning and implementation, stormwater education, grant writing, and assistance with township planning and zoning efforts to better protect natural resources.

 

Transportation Planning Services include TwinCATS, NATS, Rural Task Force, transit and non-motorized planning.

 

Economic Development Planning for Berrien, Cass and Van Buren Counties: through its federal designation as a regional Economic Development District, the SWMPC develops the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy and provides other economic development planning services.

 

Mapping and GIS Services are available to communities in southwest Michigan.  SWMPC also provides census data and other information to support grant writing and planning efforts in the region.

 

Other Planning Services include hazard mitigation plans, heritage route management plans, public transit studies, and social and human service plans.
