MISSION

The mission of SMART is to partner, promote and connect a planned trailway system in Southwest Michigan and adjoining areas to enhance the quality of life for all

SMART is important to Southwest Michigan and the state because it would allow all citizens to take advantage of the health benefits of hiking, water trails, biking, etc.  Business will have the added benefits of healthier workers which could lead to lower health care costs.

“Physical inactivity costs 8-9 billion dollars a year in avoidable heath care costs”.

Dr. David Chenowith 2003
