10-Year Plans to End Homelessness

In 2006, the Michigan State Housing Development Authority introduced a statewide initiative to end homelessness in 10 years.  All 83 counties in Michigan answered the challenge!  Southwest Michigan Planning Commission worked with Cass County and Van Buren County community leaders and human service providers to develop locally-relevant customized 10-year plans with goals, objectives, and action steps to end homelessness.  The link below goes to the 10-year plans.

A Statistic

I cannot see you as a number

Or relegate you to a column

Because

You had a name

And it was not

Per cent

In little black words

On stark white paper

Your story unfolds...

Your birth, your pain

Your confusion

Your scars, bruises

Tears, and sorrow

It is all here

Until your last day

When you became

A number

Sleep gently now little one

For I heard you begging me

To do "Something"

 Something more

Than write a report,

To do something

That matters

Because you mattered
