NEW!-The House and later the Senate approved H.R. 4281, a “clean” 90-day extension of the Highway Trust Fund taxes, spending authority, and program funding. The president signed the bill Friday. The extension, the Surface Transportation Extension Act of 2012, expires on June 30, 2012.
Current Transportation Legislation
On August 10, 2005, President George W. Bush signed the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU). SAFETEA-LU authorizes the Federal surface transportation programs for highways, highway safety, and transit for the 5-year period 2005-2009.
The U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration offers a great deal of information on SAFETEA-LU, including the full text of the legislation, summary information, fact sheets, and funding tables.
There is a lot of discussion about what is happening at the Federal and State level in regards to transportation. We will be providing more detailed information as it becomes more available. What we are providing are links to places where you can read information about transportation at the state and federal level.
