The Southwest Michigan Planning Commission (SWMPC) serves the regional planning needs of Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren Counties and is one of fourteen regional planning and development organizations in the State of Michigan.
The SWMPC also serves as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for two metropolitan transportation study areas: the Benton Harbor/St. Joseph metropolitan area, and Niles/Buchanan/Cass County metropolitan area.
Additionally, the SWMPC is the Economic Development District for the Economic Development Administration (EDA) in southwest Michigan. This means that the SWPC cultivates major economic development projects with regional impact and acts as a link between those projects and EDA funding.
The mission of the Southwest Michigan Planning Commission is to promote a sustainable, high quality of life through the facilitation of sound planning and decision-making.
